Health mantras for elderly: Socialising, exercise & positivity

Lucknow: A positive outlook and strong social connections are as important as regular exercise and adequate hydration in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. This message was highlighted during a seminar and health camp for senior citizens held in the city on Sunday.
The event was organised by Aastha Hospital Geriatric Care Centre in collaboration with SC Trivedi Memorial Mother and Child Trust Hospital.
“Regular check-ups, balanced diet, and staying active contribute significantly to overall well-being and help prevent chronic conditions. The same applies to maintaining a positive outlook,” said Dr Abhishek Shukla, founder of Aastha Hospital Geriatric Care Centre .
The health camp themed on ‘Graceful Ageing Physically and Mentally’ aimed to provide comprehensive healthcare support, focusing on physical and mental well-being. The camp offered over 30 diagnostic tests to the visitors.
Health concerns such as prostate cancer were addressed through specialised testing and counselling. Additional services included dental check-ups, urine flowmetry tests, and consultations for urinary tract infections (UTIs). Activities to engage the community included a yoga stall offering health tips and a Polio Booth encouraging childhood immunisation.
Justice Rajeev Singh of Allahabad high court and UP minister Asim Arun, who attended the camp, praised the initiative. “Prioritising both physical and mental health is essential as people age. Such initiatives improve healthcare accessibility for the elderly, supporting them in maintaining a better quality of life,” said Justice Rajeev Singh.
Holistic treatments such as acupuncture and yoga were also highlighted as preventive measures for spine and knee injuries. Other facilities included an Insulin Awareness Camp, adult vaccination services, ENT consultations, and ECG diagnostics. Senior citizens above 70 years were also offered the option to register for the Ayushman Card.
